I have recently bought a house that has a small orchard on the property.
Most of the fruit trees are different verieties and one is an Italian plum , prune tree.
The odd thing about this particulare plum is that it is sending up shoots/ suckers from
its own braches. Rather remenicent of what you see in the rain forest with plants that grow on the trees inn the are. The prune is putting out branches that drop down a bit and then at the end of these branches about 15 shoots spring up.
Like it is trying to reroot in mid are.
Does this make any sense and should I be pruning the branches out?
Please, if anyone has seen this in a fruit tree let me know.
    thanks

Sounds like new vertical shoots coming from old bending branches. Many rose family plants (most of the hardy orchard fruits common here belong to the rose family), including roses themselves do this. Study up on pruning of fruit trees before making any serious inroads. Pruning books that include fruit trees, fruit tree pruning seminars and web pages with diagrams are available.
