Is this Hedychium? Can it survive winter in Vancouver

    Is this Hedychium? Can it survive winter in Vancouver?

    This is a canna. Some are more tropical than others but there are many cultivars. In Vancouver, it's likely to die back to the ground or close enough. As long as the ground doesn't freeze, it could come back. Hedychium spp. are much more tropical in my experience. If the rhizomes get hit with a light frost, they probably won't survive. In the landscape, an insulating layer of mulch would be necessary.
