I have a pieris and skimmia with damaged leaves. They are near our house on the northwest side and they are small young shrubs.
Seems to resemble a lot of evergreen plants around the Fraser Valley this year. I would assume it is from the freezing temperatures we had this winter.
I work in a plant nursery and this is quite common after very cold weather. Over here the Pieris is more commonly damaged than the Skimmia and sometimes they even completely defoliate. They both seem fine with snow as long as it doesn't then freeze onto the plant. The upper surfaces of Skimmia almost turn to mush if snow freezes to them.
The pieris has lost all its leaves, and is very slowly growing new ones. It is in a pot near my front door and it looks ugly right now. What I'd like to know is will it ever recover enough to deserve to be in this location as a sort of speciman plant?
