    hello
i suppose this is a kind of cactus. could anyone identify it and i would also appreciate if someone would explain me its characteristics, special features (if any), what to pay attention and how to care for it (if it needs something special compared to "standard" cactus)
    thanks in advance

A species of Haworthia. Not a cactus, but likes similar soil conditions - free-draining, gritty soil, not peat compost. Your plant looks a mite deeply buried, too; there shouldn't be any soil between the basal leaves.

It is a succulent, not a cactus. Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti. Agreed with Everything Michael said. It looks like you could use his advice on the type of soil it should be in, because it looks like the soil you have it in now may absorb water longer than that plant would like to have it around. That may cause rotting.

Thank you both. I suppose that it also needs as much water as a cactus, just a bit from time to time?

Only when the soil is dry. And you should make sure that you get it into some well-draining soil. And depending on where you live, you may water it very little in the winter. Though, I've read online that some Haworthia plants will be growing actively in winter rather than summer. But I've also seen contradictory instructions. Best look at your plant and get an idea of what it wants. Read online, and don't just trust everything I say. lol But yes, it shouldn't be too hard to take care of. Overwatering would probably be your biggest enemy.
