Here is a mushroom that I found 2 weekends ago. It looks like A. augustus but is smaller than usual and doesn't have an almond odour. It didn't have any obvious staining but did darken with age in the fridge. The raw taste was mild. It was growing in a dense conifer forest where I would expect A. placomyces, but it doesn't quite look like the ones I'm used to seeing. I tasted a small piece after cooking it and didn't have any reaction; so I ate the rest of it and suffered no consequences. The cooked specimen was pretty black. The taste was pretty good but not great; but it had been in the fridge a few days before I ate it. Has anyone found A. augustus in this environment, or is it some other Agaricus? Thanks.
