I picked out this plant thinking that it may be a pregnant onion, but after looking online, that doesn't seem right. Is this what young ponytail palms look like? Thanks everyone!
Thanks for the quick reply. Mature ponytails are really neat looking plants, so I'm ok with the ID :) But now I'll still have to be on the lookout for a pregnant onion.
darn, why am I alwayse late? but yes its a babby ponytail palm. see mine in the picture. (on the left)
Blake, I see yours is a single "bulb". There are six in the pot I have. Should I separate them or should they be ok left together?
when they get bigger you can seperate them. reminder they get huge and will be needed to be seperated some time, heres some pictures of mature plants: http://images.google.com/imgres?img...ures&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLD_enUS318US318&sa=X&um=1 http://www.specimentreenursery.com.au/php/clientfiles/SpecialTrees_008.jpg http://images.google.com/imgres?img...ures&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLD_enUS318US318&sa=X&um=1 http://mgonline.com/media/Images/p/ponytail03.jpg -
I once bought a number of these that came in a 4" pot. The bulbs were quite small, perhaps 1/2" in size. Even at that young age I found them difficult to separate because of the entwined roots. So if you want to separate them it would be best to do so as soon as possible.
