I have found in my garden a variegated Centaurea montana. It is only one stem with one flower bud. If this is a rare find how do I insure it's survival? I think I need help. Sincerely Barb
If variegated overwintering basal leaves appear later then lift and divide clump, separating variegated sport out and replanting on its own. Grow that on into a clump of its own. If it remains constant (doesn't revert to green) long enough to form a full-sized variegated clump then you may have something. Variegation is frequently thrown off after a time, the first thing is to see if yours will persist. Another problem is chimaeric cultivars that are partly green and constantly produce reversions among the variegated foliage. Yours will be of interest if it produces a vigorous plant that remains variegated throughout.
