Is my holly tree alive?

    I live in Kentucky and we had a very cold winter. Does anyone know if this Holly tree is dead? It appears to have tiny buds on it but I am not sure. Please see the attached pictures.

    Looks as if most of it has freeze damage that won't recover.
    I'd prune it nearly to the ground and let it resprout from there.
    Be aware it may die (pruned or not) as some hollies are poor
    at recovering from a major trauma.

    Thank u for the answering my question. Were u able to see the picture up close? If so, do u think those are buds on the branches? Thank u again!

    My feeling is those were buds produced last year before cold weather killed them.

    Just to be sure break a few buds from the branches and see how they look like inside. If they are green and juicy the branch is alive, if they are brown and dry the branch is dead.
