You know how brugs, in the winter, sort of die back from their tips?

The tips shrivel, then the shrivelling migrates from the tips towards the roots.

Before, the shrivelling never got very far, and there was always healthy, green growth left.

This time, the shrivelling has gone all the way below the surface and there's no green left anywhere.

    Is it dead?

    (sorry no camera)

Might be, or might have just had a severe reaction to the winter. Give it until April and see if it regenerates a new shoot out of the rootstock. Brugs are really tenacious plants, so I'd tend to err on the side of "it lives, it's just napping."

    Hi Lorax
    No, it's toast.
I (gently) dug up the root and it's dead/brittle all the way to the ends of the roots.
But thats ok - now I can use that pot for my cactuses which are getting huge.
    :)
