Hello everyone. On the Queen Charlotte Islands this summer I did not notice any blackberries in the south gwaii hanaas but saw many near Charlotte city, near Masset and in disturbed areas.
Are the BC coastal blackberries introduced from elsewhere by human intervention? Does any one know of native use for the backberry suggesting it's history in this area?

    Thank you

Tall species exotic, native one is the trailing blackberry (Rubus ursinus).

Roger, view this thread for more on introduced blackberries. The only native blackberry in BC is Rubus ursinus. Is this the berry you are referring to?
