hello all. i'm interested in converting an unused room into an indoor greenhouse. read alot about lighting and am interested in an energy efficient/ heat adaptation (i have an affinity for tropical plants) version that i may put together myself. however, not sure where to start. help. any suggestion would be appreciated. thanks.

Can't help you with any specifics, but just a warning,, watch out for humidity issues. You put enough plants and water in a room without proper ventilation/paint, and you get mold, that is not good.
