hi everyone we are planning to add to our indoor plants and place it somewhere near a heating radiator. can anyone here suggest a good plant for this spot? (spot is also near a window facing east) thank you.
You need something heat-resistant that will also thrive in low light? How about a Dieffenbachia? So long as you can keep the area reasonably humid (which you can do by misting the plant daily) it will do quite well.
peace lily would be ideal. you'd need to add humidity for that and misting daily or every other day would do. you can also place any plants that need higher humidity on a dish/tray filled with stones and keep water in the dish...the stones will keep the container from sitting in the water.
www.plant-care.com/aspidistra-elatior-cast-iron-plant.html - Try looking up the above link, or just google aspidistra-elatior. It's common name is cast iron plant because it will survive in all sorts of indoor conditions. barb
Ya, just like cast iron, Aspidstra-Elatior is indestructable. Ive never been to kill it in my 14 years of abuse. It seems to thrive on bad conditions.
I think a Dieffenbachia and Spathiphyllum would be too high maintenance in this set up. I'm terrible at daily mistings! Sansieveria would be great though, I have it in my bathroom with a window that's covered half way with a black trashbag (thank you Oklahoma winds + tree/lawn debris) and the window is also covered by a patio overhang. These plants are the most easy going!
