For those of you who grow indoor lemon trees, what variety is the most popular. I know of the major three: 1)Ponderosa 2)Meyers 3)Eureka What are the advantages/disadvantges for each with disease e.t.c.? Which variety is the hardiest?
Of the three you listed, only one is a true lemon and that would be the Eureka. Meyer is the hardiest of the lemons listed. There is another hybrid called the Ichang lemon, but it is more ornamental that anything else. It is however the hardiest of all lemon hybrids.
Eureka, and Lisbon are true lemons. Meyer is a cross between a lemon and an orange. Ponderosa, also know as the American Wonder Lemon, is thought to have a strain of grapefruit in it. Ponderosa is by far the largest of the "Lemons'. The lemon varieties that are commonly sold in all stores are Eureka and Lisbon. - Millet
