I know that Avocado plants don't grow where I live so I will need to grow one indoors. I recently read that a grafted avocado plant will produce fruit quicker. Is this true? What kind of root stock would I use to graft? What is the proceedure for grafting avocado or any other plant? Are avocado plants available from nurseries on the mainland? I live on Vancouver Island.
How are you planning on growing it indoors to get fruit? It's one thing to have a plant that you keep small to grow indoors, but a fruiting tree will be large, the fruit large and heavy, a likely prone to fall over, plus far less likely to grow much fruit at all (if any) indoors. I'm sorry I've only grown them from seed, not grafts.
Bob and Verna Duncan grow avocados outside in Sidney. I have just purchased 2 avocado trees (from California) to grow outside here in North Van. Check out the other forum "growing avocados in Vancouver???" there is some useful information there. You can try a "little cado" good for container growing and bring in in the winter. This variety is not frost tolerant. Greg
