i'm having trouble on google finding the answer to my botanical question. me and a friend were trying to remember what the distinguishing features of wood are. i remember learning in botany class but i can't for the life of me remember with any certainty. can anyone out there give a wood vs. herbs thing. thanks in advance.

The main difference between woody and herbaceous plants is that woody plants maintain a perennial woody structure above ground. (I don't have a technical definition of wood, but it has to do with cellulose and lignin content.) All annuals and many perennials are herbaceous. Think of things like peony and chrysanthemum. (Banana is an herb.)
