I am starting a new fragrant/edible garden and have been looking for Illicium floridanum, but have had no luck so far. Anyone out there know where I can get one?
I live on Saltspring island and have a very warm microclimate. Thanks!

According to the info on the Net Illicium floridanum is toxic and not edible. Do you want it anyhow?

No certainly I do not plan on eating it, just for the fragrant flowers.
But, it seems they are not at the usual suspect garden centers.

Smell is of course subjective but its description in Wikipedia's page on Illicium floridanum is of something unpleasant.

Very interesting common names! However, I'm still looking for a source for this shrub and would hope to find a source somewhere in Canada.

Looks like South Coast Gardens had it in their 2010 Plant Catalogue. It does not appear in their current plant list but an inquiry may bear fruit.

Note the link is likely to be an 'orphan'. The email addresses there do not match the ones found on South Coast Gardens.
