I have tried to research the identity of this particular plant but I cannot seem to find it. I thought this message board could help. This plant was received by my family after a funeral, which maybe that has something special to do with this type of plant, but then maybe not. I will attached the picture later today Thanks
Here is it is, sorry for the delay. A little history also. I have had this plant since Feb 2001 and is left outdoors in the summer time. Seems to love it, well at least its not dead yet. Last year, I had to leave it inside from Sept to Feb and I tried the water follow the rope trick but it did not work so I thought I killed it. No such terrible luck, which was a good thing. My family calls it Dad, it was at my dads funeral that I received it. Maybe Dad just likes hanging around. Thanks for any help you can. Mark
Mark, your plant has many names besides 'Dad'. Botanically it's called Schefflera arboricola. Other names are Arboricola, dwarf Schefflera, Australian umbrella tree and Hawaiian Schefflera. http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/houseplants/types/schefflera.html Here's the other Schefflera mentioned in the above link that is also a popular houseplant. http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/houseplants/types/brassaia.html Newt
I'd stick it somewhere where it will get more light instead of in a corner. Do you have any south facing glass sliding doors? That would be a great place for it. They require more light than the minimal amount of light in your home.
This corner of the house has a window that is just to the right of it. Next year I will repot this plant, trim it down some and yes, leave it outside in the summer. Low maintenance that way. Thanks again for the help
