I bought this plant a few months ago. Someone suggested that it was a type of Cordyline, but this plant HATES sunlight. Cordylines are supposed to like the sun, or so I've read, but this poor plant wilts almost instantaneously. It recovers over night, but the green color fades to a white even when it is exposed to filtered sunlight behind lightly tinted windows. I currently have this plant facing W/NW, but I have to remove it from the windows when mid-afternoon comes. Also, I am not sure how often this plant needs to be watered and desire to know, once the name of the plant is defined, how to tell if it is under watered and over watered.

    Thanks!

Yep, it is a Madagascar Dragon Tree. I have one in my house and it is beautiful with the crossing on the stem as well as the burgundy on the leaves.

This plant does like the sun!! All mine are in full sun. When it was in the nursery they probably had it in shade or filtered light. If you want to put it in the sun, you will have to do it progressively, probably over weeks, giving it a little more sunlight each couple of days, but don't rush it

i agree with the id of d. marginata and i agree that they do like full sun...you DO need to ease them into it though or the leaves will burn.
