Hi: We had this plant since 1983; just a two leaf plant in a pot that was given to us by a neighbor in Sudbury. The neighbour said the plant came from England but she did not the name. So we call it the English plant. It remains in its two leaves until 1990 in Ottawa. Then because of where it was placed in the house (west), it started to grow to our amazement. In 1996, we were in Sturgeon Falls and the plant was facing east. Then we could smell a strong lilac like odor coming from the plant. We found under leaves a cluster of white, 5-pointed star shape with the long petiole attaching to the flower in a star shape brown coloured. On the outside of each creamy white flower, a red dot also shaped 5 pointed star. They seem to flower in March until August sometimes. It is the most beautiful flower and I love the smell which is strong only at night. I will insert several photos and if someone can give me the name of this olant, I would appreciate it. My wife has transplanted and started several plants.
Thank you so much. But the leaves look more like Hoya Motoskei. Now I know it is a rare plant, from east asia and is name Hoya. The smell of the flowers, from a thick sticky liquid is close to lilac-vanilla. thanks again this was quick!
I have one of these plants but is a variagated type, it never has bloomed. I have heard it called the wax plant for the common name.
I found the photos that was posted and I have had the same plant for 20 years and it was given to me by a neighbor and it just recently flowered for me. I thought it would never flower. So appreciate your post and finding out the name. Thank you very much. Wisconsin flower lady
