I am in the Process of finishing my kitchen garden in zone 6b. It is surrounded by rustic willow fencing and has, at the entrance, a small willow arbor that I built myself. The arbor is on the weaker side, but I wanted to plant a perennial vine on either side of it that isn't unruly like wisteria or trumpet vine. My intent is to have the arbor covered but not with something so heavy that it will collapse. Some of the vines I have thought of is honeysuckle, silver lace vine, and clematis. My question is... does honeysuckle and silver lace vine form thick woody bases/trunks (like wisteria) or will the base stay relatively thin? Any ideas are welcome along with other vine suggestions.
