I bought this "bonsai" from Home Depot.

All of It's leaves fell off a week after I bought it, then It grew two new branches and it seems to be doing fine.

Any Ideas on the kind of plant/tree it is?

    thanks

Are you sure? I googled fig and ficus for pictures and none of the leaves are circular like on my plant.

There are about 800 species in the genus, with a lot of variation in leaf shape between the different species. The way the new leaves are produced, covered by a pointed sheath (as visible on your second pic), is however very characteristic of all figs, that's how I identified it as one.
