Is this a kind of Gyromitra? Found in fairly low elevation coniferous woodland by Slesse Memorial trail yesterday (Jun 13). It was hollow and rubbery with a very short and inconspicuous stem.
I am not completely sure, but it could be Gyromitra gigas which, according to Wiki, "is found in Europe, western North America where it is common in mountainous areas in coniferous forests".
Agreed it may be Gyromitra, but I'm also wondering about Discina perlata? I've seen both with that colour and size, though the Gyromitras I see most often are darker. Do you know/recall if it had a single point of attachment, or if it had a hollow stem-like structure? cheers, frog
