My sister is quite the plant guru in our family and today she showed me a very unusual plant, It has vined to nearly sixty feet. it has extremely large leaves that are best desgribed as "bowl-shaped". She originally thought it to be a ginger or something along those lines, today however she found two watermelon looking (fruit?) one was beginning to split open, and revealed a stringy white meat with seeds throughout. the County office had never seen any thing like it, and took some samples of the plant to send off for analyzing. Does anyone have a clue as what this could be? one other thing, the stem seemed to be hollow or straw-like.
I was given a melon by a Vietnamese friend once that was called a spaghetti melon and it really did cook like strands of spaggetti a bit of a description here http://encyclopedia.kids.net.au/page/sp/Spaghetti_squash Maybe thats it?????????? Liz
