Hybrid names

    That's a bit confusing. As I read it, the gender of the parents of the cross may be indicated by symbols or by order, sounds to me like it should be one or the other. Sounds to me like you should use alphabetic sequence with symbols. If you do not use alphabetic sequence, you should say why and which is which.

    If you don't add the symbols to an alphabetic listing of the parents, there is no way to know which is which.

    All I can say is that all of the examples used on the page where the recommendation is made conform to the alphabetical sequence and no gender symbols are used.

    Much of the time writers will not know the direction of the cross.
