Hi . We have overwintered the annais hummer and awhile ago we noticed more arriving . Initially we had the single feeder and watched through wind ,rain and snow as it would make it's daily visits . With more visitors ariving we have put out a 4 position feeder .
It seems the large hummer likes the single feeder on the back porch whereas the smaller birds squabble over the 4 feeder on the front porch . We noticed sometimes when they approached the feeder that they would dart in and out trying each hole and then fly off . Usually they would stop and take a long drink . We discovered an air lock would develope over time . When the feeder is tilted an air bubble rises to the top of the jar .
My question is can this be prevented ? It's okay when someone is home to tilt the feeder occassionaly to expell the bubble . If we go away I'm worried the birds will go without due to the bubble .
    Any suggestions ?Thanks.
    Roger

Interesting question. My feeder does the same thing and I have gotten into the habit of tilting it every time I walk by. Hopefully someone will have an answer but likely it's the design and can't be fixed.

There is another model which is shown when you google feeders . It is flatter. Apparently we have one somewhere . When I find it I'll try it and see the result .
    Thanks for the reply.
