I have many japanese red maple seedlings at my house and I was wondering since I have seen alot if someone could tell me hoe to make a bonsai out of one, since they are still only about 5 inches tall.
The only use for such small seedlings would be a forest planting (a group of 3,5, 7 or more trees in a single pot). Alternatively, you could let them grow in the ground for a few years and periodically cut them back to keep them from getting too tall. Some people will also dig around the tree annually to keep the roots from spreading laterally.
