Could anyone inform me how to grow baking potatoes? I have a garden in the back yard and have grown almost every type of potato, but I notice the big brown baking potatoes never seed or produce roots from the actual potato. I cant find any answers online. Can anyone fill me in.

Are you planting seed potatoes or ones from the grocery store? Sometimes the eating potatoes have been treated with growth inhibitors. Maybe that is the reason.

    Grocery Store.

Ive purchased many forms of potatoes from the grocery store and all have sprouted after a few weeks. I also am unaware if it are possible to buy baking potatoes at a planting store. Ive seen a few different ones at say stores like canadian tire or regular greenery's, however, I am yet to find a greenery that sells seeded rooting baking potatoes.

Russets and Yukon Gold are good baking potatoes. I have seen them both at out local Walmart in the garden dept. You might try there.
