Hello, this is my first time on this forum, and will be my first time as a gardener. I live in Clearwater, Florida. On the back (south side) of my house is a concrete patio that is totally enclosed with a screened "bird cage", like the ones over swimming pools. In the south-west corner of the patio is a 16'x16' area that is not concrete, but has wood planks covering a dirt hole, where the original owner planned to install a large hot tub area. Apparently, he gave up on that idea, and just installed wood decking. It is ugly. I would like to do something with this area, like planting a vegetable and herb garden. However, I didn't know if the screen would filter out too much of the sunlight. Due to a tree on the east side neighbor's yard and my garage on the west side, the area gets direct (screen-filtered) sunlight from 11 AM to around 4 PM. Will this be enough sun for my garden? And, what herbs and vegetables would do best? D.
For that kind of light, Bananas are ideal. Other than that, you could put in just about anything other than tomatoes and it would do just fine.
