I want to plant some Japanese Holly to create a nice neat hedge. . how far apart to I plant them? I'm trying to figure how how many I need to buy? The area is 18' long x 3' wide. Thanks everyone.
If you are going to shear them then spacing in row would be same as depth of finished hedge (think of each specimen as a square building block).
Hi Ron, I'm sorry but I don't understand. I've read your answer over and over and I still can't figure out how far apart they should be planted? One ft? 2ft? Yes, I will shear them. Thanks Ron.
Think of it as a wall made of square blocks. If each "block" is to be 2' x 2' then you plant them 2' apart, and so on. Each plant will have a trunk(s) near the center with 1' of growth in each direction.
