how do you prune a lemon tree

    i have a lemon tree around 7 feet tall and its hard to take it back inside during the winter because its so tall. it only has one vertical stem and i was wondering if someone could tell me how to prune it or even if i can.

    For general citrus culture, pruning is not recommended, however, as in your case, sometimes you have to to keep the tree within a certain space. If your tree was grown from seed and has not yet flowered and produced fruit, pruning will increase the time required to fruit since the "node count" will start again at wherever the tree is cut, but if it was grafted with mature wood it will not matter as much. Many people prefer to top their trees at about 2 ft to encourage branching at that point, but it is up to you if you want it to start branching at a lower or higher point.
