I am trying to firgure out what this plant it. I got it at a grocery store and it was just labeled as "foliage". It is not doing so well anymore and I need the name so I can try and figure out what is wrong and what it needs.
It is planted in a fish bowl. Any suggestions on what it is and what may be wrong with it?

Looks like parlor palm, Chamaedorea elegans. Get your plant in a new pot---one with drainage holes!

Thank you! Yes, I figured my plant may not be liking the fish bowl situation. I will get a better pot then!

oh, it needs drainage!! you should put it in a container that has drain holes in it so excess water has a way out! otherwise, it'll end up with rotted roots!! they also like shady spots; no full sun (unless it's morning sun and then only for an hour or so).

I put it in a new pot last night. It is a plastic pot, it only had one hole so I cut a few more holes in the bottom just in case the one wouldn't provide enough drainage for it.

that'll be fine. water thoroughly enough so you just see some of it coming out the bottom and then let it dry a bit - not completely, though - before watering again.

Also, the browning leaves, do i cut them off? A friend told me that I should cut off brown leaves on plants because it makes them healthier. Is this true, or should I just leave them be?

you can cut them off or leave them until such time as the whole thing has completely dried/browned and then it should come of with a gente tug.

normal growth pattern is that new leaves come in at the top and the older ones at the bottom eventually die off.
