Today I saw this yellow fruiting body of what I believe to be a fungus on a Prunus cerasifera - perhaps a Pissardii plum tree ...

What you see in the photos, 2 samples, measure roughly 6" - 8" in diameter.

    Any ideas?

That is almost certainly the Sulfur Shelf or Chicken mushroom, Laetiporus sulphureus, a good edible when picked young, as in the photos. It gets woody with age. There are no look-alikes in this region, as far as I'm aware. It's good to see that they are fruiting already, although I suspect that the host tree has been watered.

Remember when eating Laetiporus, harvest only the growing edge as it tastes better and that way the fruiting body remains alive and you can keep harvesting as that edge regrows.
