I have a lilac tree, it's about 7 foot tall. The top is growing wonderful, its about 3 foot high by 4 foot wide. But the trunck is only about 2 inches across. The weight of the top makes the tree very flimsy, I have it staked but would like to enhance the truck growth to support the top. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Try pruning some of the top out. (after it flowers).
