I purchases a small 3-headed pony-tail palm tree from florida in summer. I live in Misouri where our winters are very cold, so my plants are indoors. I planted him in a very large planter hoping that his base would grow taller. I don't know what to do know, because his leaves are the only things that grow. they are already about 3 ft long, but the base is only about 8 inches tall. It seems that his shoots where the leaves grow are the only thing growing taller, every new leaf is longer then the last.
Hi, I'm wondering if the same culprit isn't responsible also for your dragon tree trouble - fertilizer, maybe too much of a good thing (a high 3rd number), rather than one with at least a balanced, or higher 1st number, the nitrogen, which will help grow the trunk - apart from higher light and care not to overwater. Do you have any grit in the soil to help it drain quickly?
