I just bought a new jasmine (tree I think) and it has a ant pile in the soil and ants are all over the limbs. Its sitting in my balcony and I think this will kill it , but my intentions were to use this plant in my chameleon enclosure. I cant use insecticide as this will harm the chameleon. Iwas going to remove all the soil and wash the limbs so that I will get rid of them. Will this kill the plant? Any help is greatly apreciated.
As long as you keep the roots wet and out of the sun it should be fine. Do chameleons not eat ants? Carol Ja
Hi jriv, Do check to make certain they aren't fire ants! If not, you can try and remove all the soil, but they will definately be all over you. You might want to consider an ant bait. Newt
Thanks for the advice guys. Those damn ants are fire ant and chameleons shouldn,t eat them since they do bite and are poisounous
You could try drowning them, just don't leave the pot in water for too long, or the plant will drown too.
Here's what I have on organic fire ant control. http://fireant.tamu.edu/materials/factssheets/fapfs012.htm Good luck, Newt
I used some ant killer for gardens and vegtables. They are all gone and so is some white residue that was always on the leaves. Now Ill just wait a couple of weeks till the pesticide fully disolves so the tree can go into the chameleon viv. Thanks again guys.
