So many tree issues this year! I have a small dogwood that is dying and I want to replace it with something that grows faster to block the ugly view of the school behind our house. The location will be south facing, hot sun all day, we live in Ladner so wind is often quite strong and our soil is heavy clay although I have dug out and built up a bed with composted soil. I would like something that gets 30-40ft tall without invasive roots.

    Trees I was considering
    Japanese Snowbell
    Pacific Dogwood
Maple of some sort (not Japanese due to the sun) Maybe Amur or Paperbark

Trees we have already include Ginko Biloba, Eastern Redbed, Oyama Magnolia and another Dogwood

Please help me decide, any opinions appreciated!

The Pacific Dogwood may give you problems with Anthracnose. Try Cornus kousa

    Consider Gleditsia and Cercidiphyllum.

There is no reason to exclude Japanese maple due to the exposure, unless you plan to let it bake - in which case multiple other kinds listed will not be happy either.
