Identification: Help Identify these red japanese maples.

    Hello guys! I purchased these maple seedlings from a local nursey here in Srinagar,India.

    The seller himself seemed clueless about the proper identification of these maple seedlings.

    Acer palmatum var atropurpureum (or atropurpureum group). HTH

    Nice seedlings.

    I agree with Emery, they are Acer palmatum f. atropurpureum. The name "Atropurpureum" was originally used for a single cultivar but has over time come to be applied to a whole group of red leaved clones and seedlings.

    Even if the parents were named cultivars, the seedlings will not be exactly true to type and cannot carry forward the cultivar name.

    I looked up the climate in Srinagar and it seems like it will be a good environment for growing these trees.
