Hello all! I'm new here and I'm not a very experienced cactus owner, but I know when its not looking good. My cactus has been slowly turning brown at the base and is losing its green color. I don't think its rot because the cactus is still very firm to the touch, and I really dont water it too much. I also have a quick draining soil. I worry that perhaps it is suffering from too much sun or not enough water? It is in the shade now indoors but I was wondering what I can do to save my dearly beloved cactus?

Thank you so much to any help!!

I have a cactus that was having a similar problem. I was told that it was not getting enough light. I have moved it to a window with more sun. When you say you don't water it too much how often do you water it. Cacti prefer to be on the dry side. They can take being under watered more that they can take being over watered.

thanks for the reply! I water it probably once a month it just when the soil dries out. I was afraid it was getting too much direct sun. it's in the shade now. maybe I'll slowly introduce it to the sun again with partial sun at first. thank you!
