i have a large lizard and today I took his cage apart to build him a new one and I found out that the sealent that was used was no good and the bottom rotted and there is some really gross mould that grew between the ply wood and the cement basement floor! I have no clue if it's dangerous or what type it is someone please help!!
Hi Maverick, I agree this looks like a true mold, as in a filamentous fungus without structures that we can use to identify it from photos/descriptions. Mold specialists can sometimes make guesses from the colour and location, but generally require microscopy to do an identification. Most molds are not dangerous. If your mold is living on stuff it found in the cage, then replacing wood / sealant and preventing dampness on the woody parts seems like a good solution. If it is connected to dampness of other wood in your house structure then that may be something else. Removing dampness is generally the place to start. I hope that helps, -frog
hi thank you it was growing under the cage as the sealent I used failed and leaked under the enclosure it has all since been removed.
