HI! I live in Florida and have planted several kinds of orange trees and lemon trees in my yard, the trees are only 3 years old. I have one tangerine tree that is very droopy, it is loaded with fruit that are not continueing to rippen. I throught it need water so I gave it water, today I dug up the soil to check it and it is still really wet. the trre alrogot got pushed over by the winds of the recent storm and we had to stake it back up. help
I wouldn't water it anymore until it dries out a bit, and I personally would remove the fruit. It is using too much energy to maintain fruit when it should be focusing on getting better. With the stress it might be in shock a bit. I would check throughly all stems and leaves for sign of infestation or disease to rule that out. See what the experts say, they might be able to advise you better. Don't do anything rash until you have a better opinion but I'm sure I have read this thread somewhere else, where others have advised what to do but I don't remember what they said lo sorry!
When the winds blew your tree over, they suffered sever root damage. As the trees are now without leaves, they will not require any further watering (NONE). Just do not let the root zone become 100 percent bone dry - but DO NOT water as long as the soil contains some moisture in the root zone. If the trees are to survive they will have to first regenerate a new root system. I would give the trees a 20 - 25 percent chance of recovery. As long as the wood remains green there is life. - Millet
