I have a Hedychium growing a pot and it is doing very well. Curious, as I have never seen it in flower? Do the flower stalks come up separately from the stalks which are there now which cary leaves on them? I have about six - seven new stalks that have emerged through the soil and wondering if these are the flower stalks, may have to wait and see.
On another note, I was going to leave this plant outside in a cold greenhouse, but I would hate to lose it. Would I be better to bring it in? When inside, do the leaves die back or would they remain and the plant go dormant?
    Any information would appreciated.
    Thank You

Inflorescences appear at top ends of stalks. If you have built up a fair sized plant and there is no flowering something in its conditions needs to be changed.

I'm 10 minutes down the Island Hwy from you and mine all flower regularly. Never a trouble with wintering these even without mulch. I just leave the dead stalks alone until spring to avoid rain water wicking down into the rhizomes and rotting them.
Mine are ready to bloom this week.

    Cheers, LPN.

My Hedychium flowered magnificantly and I appreciate all the information that one gets through this website.
I was unsure as when would be the best time to separate my Hedychium? I have mine in large pot and I'm wondering if this plant where to get root bound, would it not flower as freely in time?
There were many new stalks produce and about half of them produced flowers. Do the stalks produced that did not flower remain, or do they usually die back and new grow for the next year?
A subscriber 'LPN' gave me some advice and I am going to follow this out for the winter.
