I have seen a delightful plant called a "Waxflower"! Can it be grown from seed, and if so, what's the lowdown on being successful? All info welcomed with extreme gratitude! Best regards to one and all! KEN.
At least two flowers are called waxflower from Australia--Chamalaucium spp. (Geraldton wax) and Hoya australis. I would guess it is the first that you are after, as hoyas are familar to most. Chamalaucium are from Western Australia and grow in very dry conditions. I brought a packet of Geraldton wax seed when I visited Australia, but alas I did not have success with them. However the seed was sold at the Botanic Garden in Perth and I think Sydney as well, so I guess it is reasonable to assume that they can be grown from seed with normal methods. I am pretty sure they require smoke for germination. Most of the seeds I purchased from Aus. required this. And I did use it, in powdered form, but I don't have the best set up for starting seeds of any kind in my home. Here is a link to an article that talks about the introduction of the plant to California where it apparently does very well: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20070304/news_lz1hs04judys.html
Thanks Eric, I have had other replies on this topic, and, judging by their replies it would seem that vegetive propagation is the way to go! So, I'll have to wait until I can get my hands on a plant, and then have a stab at propagating one! Many thanks for your prompt reply Eric, much appreciated! Best regards, KEN.
Thanks Daniel, I Have Visited Other Sites, I Just Wanted To Know If Anyone In Ubc Had Managed To Grow Them From Seed! Best Regards, Ken!
