Hi, I live in Germany, near Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Pfalz (yep my husband is stationed here), and we just bought a house with a beautiful back yard/garden. It has 3 tiers (house at the bottom) and I want to start a vegetable garden, but have no idea where to begin. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't even know what hardiness zone we are in. I have found maps for the US, but not Germany. Any advice, help or general knowledge anyone can give will be greatly prized!
    Thanks,

    Gen

That's an interesting map. It looks like most of Germany is Zone 7. Though I suspect with less of the intense summer heat than one expects in Zone 7 in North America. Those cool gray skies of northern Europe.

Viachicka, are there any local garden centers or nurseries? The Germans are a great gardening people but I don't know how things work over there on the retail end of things.
