The following was received via email: I've just moved from Toronto to Vancouver, and am trying to find a good source for identifying the incredible flora I'm surrounded by. I was looking for an online identification site, and came across the UBC site. Can you recommend a good field guide for the city vegetation that's suitable for a lay-person without any background in botany?
Two excellent books to start with: Trees of Vancouver by Gerald Straley Plants of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland by Collin Varner, a UBC Arborist
I should note that we're looking into getting the content of the "Trees of Vancouver" book online, if the present holder of copyright clears it.
