I have about 30 growing inside 16oz cups the taproot has already established its self and I see small shoots. My question is can I cut the acorn off because the taproot and the shoots are on there own stem now.The reason is so I can put them outside so the squirrels don't pull them up and damage the taproot or shoot
Best to wait until after the first leaves have expanded. Before that, the seedling is still relying on the stored food reserves in the acorn. If you want to plant them now, put some wire netting over them to keep squirrels off, then cut the netting away at the end of the summer.
From tiny acorns a forest will grow. Wow 30 of them. I am trying to house 2 pin oaks and 3 others on 5 acres. Are you going to let them grow to their full potential or are these for a project like Bonsai?? or hedge. Liz
I'm going to keep a few in containers and some for bonsai's and give a few to people that want to plant them in their yard
