I have been interested in plants all my life. I am very interested in starting a greenhouse next spring. I have tried may times, unsuccessfully to plant seeds. From a package, about 6 survive. I find they grow too fast, get very thin and die off. How do I get my starter plants for the outdoor season to grow like those sold at nurseries? Cindy
Cindy--most of the problem is probably to do with the light. Professional growers have their trays on benches in a greenhouse with light from all angles, as well as supplemental lighting in early spring (they are starting some bedding plant items in Dec./Jan.when days are too short and light too weak for good growth). Not too little or too much water prevents the little seeds and seedlings from either drying out or being attacked by moulds called damping off. Good air circulation helps with the latter, as well as the best seeding mix, such as Sunshine Mix.
