grass disease id

    how can i tell difference between slug infestation and brown patch? i treated for the slugs in early sept. have not noticed too much improvement. will it be gone next growing season? thank you

    kentucky blue. it;s an old established lawn

    Kentucky blue is more resitant to brown patch than tall fescue. Brown patch pops up during hot, humid days. You will need a hand lens to look for lesions on individual blades. Look for brown lesions with a yellow/brown halo (border). Since you said your lawn is established, I wouldn't use any fungicides yet. Brown patch can be controlled by making changes to your maintenance plan. Brown patch favors high nitrogen levels, so don't use a fertilizer with excessive amounts of nitrogen. Fertlize in the fall or early spring avoiding applications in the summer.
