Hi, I've not posted before, so bear with me. I cut into a grapefruit (which I imagine was not from a dwarf tree) and there was a seed that had split and sent out a root, which had attached itself to one of the segment membranes! I had given birth to a grapefruit tree! :) It is now between 12 and 16 inches tall, about 8 inches across, is sitting in my kitchen window, and I need help with how to take care of it at this point. I read that a regular size grapefruit tree will get about 25 x 25 feet, so how will it do in a container? It seems to like to be root bound, and it is in a 4" container and needs to be re-potted again. While it is growing fantastically, I think it may need some fertilizer, but noone around here knows what to use. I heard that Miracle Grow is not good for it, as it has to much NA. I know it can't live on water alone forever. Note that I am in WA State, not WA DC. Not exactly citrus country - at least not outdoors. Anyone got ideas? PS Is it legal to take the plant to Florida?
Welcome to the forum. To answer this question.... It's not legal to move any citrus into or out of the state without meeting quarantine requirements.
That's a bummer, and what I was afraid of. Ok, how about the care of the grapefruit plan (see my post)?
A number of past threads have dealt with similar circumstances involving grapefruit seed. You should be aware that a containerized grapefruit tree grown from seed may not bear fruit for many years, if ever. A summary of cultural requirements can be found in this post in Orange Tree Dropping Leaves | UBC Botanical Garden Forums.
