First posting in 2008 The cherries in bloom were few and far between, but here's what I found: This one at McLean & Williams: And this one at Woodland & Kitchener: Here's the map for the 2nd one: Laura 3:) Edited 2013mar18 by wcutler: There is no 'Accolade' or any other kind of cherry at either of these locations. I did see one tree trunk with no branches, so maybe that was one of them.
Re: Grandview Woodland 18 Whitcomb cherry trees were blooming beautifully in McSpadden Park at Victoria and 5 Ave., Vancouver.

Re: Rancho - Grandview-Woodland, Victoria Drive from Broadway to E 1st Ranchos on Victoria Drive in full bloom on April 12, 2008.
Re: Grandview Woodland - Cheal's Weeping While "Biking the Blossoms" last Saturday we came across two small mature weeping chrisanthemum-flowered cherries in a private yard on the North side of Adanac, East of Woodland. The trees were not strongly weeping in habit, but the flowers with many narrow petals and extra sepal-like petals between the sepals suggest that they are either Kiku-shidare-zakura or Cheal's Weeping. The trees show some bark fissures.
Re: Grandview Woodland - Tai Haku? We saw several of these large trees with "snowballs" of white flowers on Saturday's "Bike the Blossoms" on the West side of Woodland, somewhere South of William. We did not note the size of the flowers, but the general shape looks like Tai Haku.
Re: Grandview Woodland - Kanzans Oh my gosh are there a lot of whole block Kanzans in Grandview-Woodland: 3rd, from Semlin to Commercial 2nd, from Victoria to Commercial, then Semlin at Graveley looking north and south Kanzans on Templeton south of 1st. Here's an Amanogawa on Templeton at Grant. This street would have had nice plum colour too.
Re: Grandview Woodland We've been asked to check out a small grove of Shirofugens at the parkette (Salsbury Park) at Salsbury and Adanac. Can we remember that till mid-April?
Whitcomb - Grandview Woodlands, on Victoria Dr at E 5th First posting in 2009 The Prunus x subhirtella 'Whitcomb' trees in McSpadden Park on Victoria Drive at E. 5th are showing pink buds now, so should be in bloom within a week or two. These photos are from March 21, 2009.
Re: Whitcomb - Grandview Woodlands, on Victoria Dr at E 5th These are showing a lot more colour now, but they're not really open yet. You can check last year's posting to see what you're waiting to see.
Re: Whitcomb - Grandview Woodlands, on Victoria Dr at E 5th Sorry, I forgot to post this from April 4. I thought these were getting past prime and I'd missed them at their best, but then Joseph Lin wrote to say he was told on April 7 that they were only 50% open. I think maybe they're not going to be as spectacular this year as last and they should be given another chance next year at being a favourite.
alley blossoms I happened to be out walking today and noticed some pretty blossoms in an alley so I thought I would take some photos for this site. They are just east of the little A on the map. Enjoy!
Re: alley blossoms 'Akebono'. The fourth picture from the left ( a wonderful image) shows the staminodes (imperfectly formed extra petals) that are diagnostic for this cultivar.
Re: Whitcomb - Grandview Woodlands, on Victoria Dr at E 5th Here they are again, though this is old already, as they were taken April 9.
Re: Grandview Woodland - First posting in 2009 On April 26, Rows of Kanzen can be found at Parker St. & Victoria Drive.
Kanzan - Grandview Woodlands, 3rd Ave Semlin to Commercial Gosh those Prunus Sato-zakura Group 'Kanzan' trees didn't hang around for long this year. These trees on E 3rd from Semlin to Commercial (a block west of Victoria) are well past prime now, but there's lots of petal "snow" and the trees still have some colour. After taking in the favourites, you can see more Kanzans a block east on Lakewood at 3rd and 4th. On 3th east of Lakewood on the north side is an Amanogawa in a yard. It's also past its prime - the blossoms all have red centres now. Other locations are 2nd, from Victoria to Commercial, Templeton up to Commercial, and across 1st on Semlin at Graveley looking north and south.
