We have been growing Gloriosa for two years as a house plant, started with 2 "bulbs" in 12' tub, had about a dozen blooms last year -- a striking blossom -- overwintered as instructed - woke it up mid March placed in a south window -- two stems came up and grew about 3 inches a day soon reaching top of the window so moved it to east bay window for more height. Did not bud until past top of window. In the meantime two more sprouts appeared and they are growing rapidly but not setting buds. What can we do to induce more flowering?
Hi Allan, It's been a long time since you wrote about your lily, but in case you didn't find the info on getting it to bloom again, here you go. http://www.gaygardener.com/gardenspot/bulbs024.phtml Newt
Newt: You are great! I have had this weird looking plant growing in two pots for a couple of years, now. Just ran across your July, 2005 words and references to Gloriosa climbing lily. At last, I finally know what those suckers are! WOW! What elation. Thanks for solving one of my longest lasting puzzles. I can't even remember where I got them, it has been so long. VOILA!!!
Hi Chuck, Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I've been ill and missed many older notifications. I'm just catching up on them. I'm really glad this solved your mystery and appreciate your response, but credit also goes to Allan for writing in! :) He actually made it all possible. They are lovely plants, aren't they? Newt
